A settler family drilling for drinking water on the north Texas prairie struck a mineral well instead. The taste was strange; the effects, people said, were not.
Word travelled, more wells were sunk, and the settlement took the only name that fit: Mineral Wells.
1885 — 1930s
One well in particular drew crowds, and the local story of a woman whose condition improved after drinking from it gave the water its name.
By the 1920s Mineral Wells was a full-blown health resort — pavilions, hotels, a national radio show — and Crazy Water was shipped across the country by the crate.
Today
The Famous Deep Well still runs, and the water is graded by mineral concentration from No. 1 to No. 4. Crazy Fizz is built on No. 3.
Nothing is added to the water but carbonation. Mineral content shifts with rain and drought by roughly 30% either way — a working spring, not a formula.
