In the Loire, in a village called Saint-Galmier, a spring rose from the ground already alive with gas. Locals had known it for generations; in 1778 it was recorded, protected and given a name.
The water has flowed from that same catchment ever since.
The journey
Rain falls on the hills of the Forez and descends through fractured granitic rock, gathering calcium, magnesium and bicarbonate over a long, slow passage underground.
Deep volcanic activity charges the water with carbon dioxide before it returns to the surface — the effervescence is the earth's, not a factory's.

Fine, lively bubbles and a crisp, mineral-forward taste have made Badoit a fixture of the French table for more than two centuries.
